I have been looking at a 2008 Lexus IS 350 since august. My local dealer has 3 in the color options package. They won't negotiate on price so the cars just sit there for months on end. By the time they are ready to get rid of the 2008's the 2010's will be out.

If he had a real understanding of how the market works he'd have shorted any of dozens of stocks and would be buying a car for himself and his sweetheart probably off on of the less successful brokers, extended his trip to Paris and paid off the student loan in full (just to get it out of the way).

I just can't get over how Bastiat keeps coming back again and again (Hazlitt was so right). The majority of economic fallacies stem not from any lack of knowledge about economics, but directly from people's stupidity. I'm starting to seriously wonder if there's anything anyone can reallly do about it.

I've never seen a mention of a 'credits' type system in original BSG. As to transport, gold is fungible so transport may not have been needed to any large extent. Also it is supposed to be a people that have been traveling in space for thousands of years so costs should have been low.

Interesting. Given the highly advanced state of the 12 Colonies however, does Gold really make sense? In order for separate planets to transact business this would imply that gold would have to be moved from one planet to another at great expense. Did they ever mention credits on BSG or was it implied that they always used hard currency?

Very enjoyable little story, in the sense that it is depressingly prescient.

I live in Edmonton, Alberta, where our city transportation chief is on record as saying he wants to suspend road construction and scale back maintenance, as well as jack up downtown parking rates to outrageous levels, in order to force people to use public transit. In your first Motorama Dystopia, you mentioned that the plan is to force people into public transit, then make public transit worse. Edmonton has streamlined the process by not having any kind of decent public transit system in the first place. You Americans are just so inefficient in your statism!
